About

Poarta Neamului is a family business where parents and children are involved in the development and operations. At the heart of Poarta Neamului in central-northwestern Moldova is the 100-year old family house where the father spent his childhood. This is now a museum to share with visitors the local cultural traditions and stories, from one generation to the next. The old wood oven has been rebuilt to be able to cook dishes just like grandma used to do.

Located in Temeuti village in Calarasi district just 65 km from Chisinau Poarta Neamului tourst complex includes a large territory surrounding the house incudes gardens, fruit orchards, vineyards, and beautiful views of the natural landscapes. The goal is to create a space where visitors can come, relax in the natural environment, enjoy a delicious traditional meal cooked in the wood oven, and appreciate the local cultural heritage through the museum and experiences. We also want to be your gateway to adventure with all the information, equipment, guiding and support you need for a hike or bike ride to the highest point in Moldova, Balenesti Hill, or other natural reserves in the area.

Zinaida and her husband, Gavril Țurcanu, both have extensive professional and life experience that they are using at Poarta Neamului to create as memorable and quality experience for visitors. Zinaida’s experience in hospitality and catering will help to preserve grandma’s recipes and create special food products using local vegetables and fruits sold in the souvenir shop. Gavril is a nature lover with a strong agricultural background who knows this whole region well after spending his childhood here and living in the village. This makes him the perfect guide for visitors who want to hike up to Balenesti Hill, go mushroom picking in the forest or explore the nearby plum orchard and vineyard.

Tourism can play a hugely important role in the rural economy and the preservation of rural village. Another goal of Poarta Neamului is to engage the local community by sourcing products locally and hiring and training local people as museum and hiking guides in the high season and for seasonal work, events and other activities.

Sustainability Initiatives at Poarta Neamului

Sustainable tourism that preserves the local environment and supports socio-economic development in the community is very important to us at Poarta Neamului. We want to operate as sustainably as possible in order to protect the fragile natural environment and biodiversity around us so that our guests and future generations can enjoy it.
We have invested in the following sustainability initiatives as part of this journey:

  • Filtered water offered to avoid plastic water bottle waste
  • Composting of food waste
  • Reusing and upcycling of different materials
  • Sourcing products locally

This is only the beginning of our sustainability journey. We have plans to install solar panels for renewable energy, programs to recycle waste and engage in activities to educate the local community in the process.
We also ask that all of our guests respect the natural environment at Poarta Neamului and the surrounding area by not leaving any trash when hiking or cycling, and staying on the proper trails so as to not destroy the surrounding natural environment.

We look forward to welcoming you soon to Poarta Neamului! Get in touch to find out more or make a booking for your next holiday.
